Ahmedabad- A Vibrant City, a City with Quality Life for all

Ahmedabad (also known as Amdavad) is the seventh largest city of India. Located along the banks of river Sabarmati, the city has a population of 5.5 million spread over an area of 464sq.km. Ahmedabad was founded in 1411 and served as the administrative capital for a long period. It gained popularly due to its textile industries and came to be known as the “Manchester of India”. Ahmedabad continues to be a major commercial hub of the state.

The city has been futuristic in city planning. Key recent initiatives like introduction of complete Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Sabarmati Riverfront Development and Kankaria Lake Front Development have up scaled the urban transformation process. Key measures have been taken towards integrated urban development, including better mobility, industrial development, infrastructure up gradation, provision of housing and services for the urban poor. The city’s strength is marked by its prominent educational institutes, uninterrupted power supply, excellent road network and good governance. Ahmedabad is being considered a city with immense investment opportunities. The entrepreneurial spirit of its citizens and the safe environment add to its attractiveness.

Ahmedabad inspires many due to its strong association with great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as “The Iron Man of India”. The Sabarmati Ashram was home to the Mahatma Gandhi for about 12 years. Ahmedabad has popular celebrations like the kite flying on “Uttarayan” and “Garba” dance during “Navratri”. With its rich cultural heritage, art and architecture, Ahmedabad aspires to become a world heritage city.
